Last Friday Oulton Park opened its gates to the 2010 season with a test session. Track conditions were made challenging by the combination of recent weather conditions and fallen leaves.
However, this challenge was something the drivers were relishing. Hughes’ Managing Director Tony Hughes was utilising the day to get his eye back in and try and to get more time in the seat. He commented:
‘As this is the first test day at Oulton Park for the 2010 season, it is a perfect opportunity to get back into the groove. The circuit is brilliant and the conditions are very slippery and challenging which helps to get your eye in again. I have many plans for this season. I am hoping to do 7 out of the 10 rounds of the Ginetta G50 Championship but also going to make appearances at the Spa 6 hour, Classic Le Mans and the Britcar 24hr races.’
Hughes Safety Showers is the first manufacturer in the North West to receive the Investors in People Gold Award. We have held Investors in People accreditation since 2002 and this latest extension to the award is designed to stretch organisations even further.
Currently 30,000 companies are accredited to Investors in People. Since the new setup of IiP with the additional Gold, Silver and Bronze awards in May 2009, just 105 of the companies that have been re-assessed have achieved Gold, none of whom are in manufacturing. To get the top award, applicants must meet a minimum of 165 evidence requirements plus the 39 required for the standard Investors in People Award.
The Investors in People Gold award together with the recently acquired Environmental Management Standard ISO14001 tops off a great 2009 for Hughes Safety Showers. The Company, Europe’s leading manufacturer of Emergency Safety Showers and Decontamination Equipment, recorded strong growth in the year with a 10% increase in sales and a 35% increase in overseas business. Last weekend saw a fantastic set of results for Speedworks Motorsport – trophies and a best ever finish for Tony Hughes at Rockingham, qualifying in 12th place.
Race 1 on Saturday afternoon saw the team field 3 of it’s regular cars, Tony having a great battle to finish in 11th position.
Sunday morning saw bright sunshine and two more races to run. The start of Race 2 was a rather torrid affair with a spinner at the second corner taking out 4 cars, but the race settled down and saw Tony have his best ever finish in 6th place. He took his maiden podium to win the Chairmans Cup category and achieve fastest lap in the class!
Race 3 saw another corner collision which saw Tony take the unfortunate turn of collecting the spinning car but even this could not dampen his sprits as Speedworks brought home 4 trophies, with 3 class wins and a 3rd overall.
